the claque (Nick Leavens, Founder and Artistic Director/Piama Habibullah, Producing Director) based in New York City has three basic principles

  • Innovative, engaging, accessible creations
  • Adaptive producing methods
  • Community strengthening and expanding programming

Through our collaborations we will strive to be innovative in all aspects of the process, in inception, writing, design, producing, directing, creating an environment where a team can work together to create a unique vision. Our creations will engage our audiences in various ways that support the distinct creative process. All of our work will be accessible – in affordability, in emotional and intellectual connectivity, in creating work that touches groups of different ages, races, religions, sexes, orientations, moralities and ideals.

Recognizing that each project the claque takes on will require different assets, we are committed to an agile, adaptive producing stance. By maintaining a small core staff and many collaborating artists we will custom tailor each show to best suit its needs. Always maintaining a strong connection to our core values by having a staff executive producer, we will partner with other producing groups, bring on project specific collaborators and expand or contract the company as needed.

Finally, with an ever changing community the claque will be a leading force in building a strong network of communication with the constant goal of strengthening and challenging the theatre community. We will work to both improve ourselves as a company and the community we are part of with a series of interviews, readings, panel discussions, retreats, engaging social media, classes, social events and publications.
