The Quick and Dirties or the QuaDs is |the claque|‘s flagship workshop program now entering its fourth year.
In brief: the QuaDs seeks full-length plays in need of a work-out: post-reading, but pre-performance.
In detail: |the claque|’s Quick and Dirties is a work-out intensive for your full-length play that has grown beyond the seated-reading stage, but needs room to grow before it is production-ready. Through collaborative input with the writer, |the claque| will help our selected plays move from good to great.
The Quick and Dirties presents four to six plays. Each play will receive ten-days of rehearsal, a four-hour tech rehearsal, and two fully-staged, on-book public presentations. Limited budgets are provided to allow for basic design elements and professional actors who will perform under a Showcase Code.
Upon acceptance, writers will meet with |the claque|’s artistic, literary, and production staff to discuss goals for the QuaDs work-out. The staff will also work with each writer in establishing the best creative team for realizing the play as much as possible in a collaborative manner. Pre-rehearsal prep via discussions with and without |the claque| leadership will be greatly encouraged.
Writers will be expected to be involved with most rehearsals and present for both public presentations of the final work. While the QuaDs is not an opportunity to re-write a play, mild revisions will be supported.
Writers will also be expected to support their fellow QuaDs members. A retreat will be held mid-March for camaraderie and discussion of each others’ work, and writers should plan to attend at least three other QuaDs presentations in addition to their own. Please Note: Applicants must be available for the retreat to be considered.
Writers must reside within the New York City area. Unfortunately, housing and travel reimbursements cannot be supplied. Accepted writers will receive a modest stipend. Writers should not submit plays that have been produced beyond the reading/workshop stage in NYC or elsewhere.
Please note that the application dates for the 2014 QuaDs have already passed.
